Global Automotive Alliance opens new HQ in southwest DetroitDetroit-based Global Automotive Alliance LLC opened this week a new headquarters at a former FedEx distribution center in southwest Detroit. "This is the first time we've consolidated all of our businesses under one roof," Hester said. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones and other community leaders are expected to join the company's executives for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday. The move is part consolidation of its five subsidiaries under one roof and plans for growth, Hester said. The building includes 10,000 square feet of office space and space for a business incubator, which currently houses three entrepreneurial companies, said Sylvester Hester, GAA's president and CEO.

In 2015, the City of Detroit awarded Vitec, one of Global Automotive Alliance's member companies, an $11.53-million vehicle parts inventory management contract, making it one of the largest awarded to any minority firm by the city. Pickard, who has helped mentor a generation of African-American business owners in Detroit, is slowly turning over management of the company to CEO Sylvester Hester.

GAA member companies include Grupo Antolin Primera, ARD Logistics, Key Logistics Solutions, Global SQ and VITEC. "Bill Pickard and his team could have built their first headquarters anywhere, but they chose Detroit because they see the growth opportunities here. GAA is a global provider of contract logistics, procurement, quality containment, warehousing, freight forwarding and contract assembly services. The new 75,000-square-foot facility is located at 2801 Clark Street and houses office space, warehouse and a small business incubator.
