The Chevy Bolt Is Being Marked Up and Discounted By Dealerships
Some dealerships are attempting to cut deals left and right for the new Chevy Bolt electric hatchback, while other dealerships are attempting to pull customers in with notable markups on their cars, Automotive News reports. AN was unable to speak with any of dealerships that have marked up the price on the Bolt. One Southern California dealer was marketing a Bolt for $4,439 less than an equivalent car at a nearby dealership, according to the story. Though Bolts have only arrived in seven states so far, some dealerships are working hard to offload the cars. As for why other places are looking to charge more than MSRP for the car, well, your guess is as good as anyone's.
The new Leaf may turn up the heat on the Bolt, but the real threat comes from Tesla's first sub-$40k vehicle. There appears to be a noticeable disparity in pricing for the Bolt between dealerships, even for those that are only several miles apart. GM may not seem too concerned about the looming threat of the Model 3, but it's pretty clear that its dealers are. Otherwise they wouldn't be racing with one another to sell as many Bolts as possible at the expense of higher margins While some dealers have predictably hiked up the 238-mile EV's pricing, some have opted to offer discounts of up to $3,000 instead.
