Overall, at least among the OEMs, expense rate increases vastly outnumbered the expense rate reductions. Accruals by the small vehicle manufacturers were up by about $675 million in 2016, while accruals by the large vehicle manufacturers were down by about $274 million. Among the individual OEMs, last year saw primarily increases in their warranty expense rates. But then warranty expense rates rose through 2015 and 2016. Automotive Warranty Expense Report: While the individual manufacturers see their claims, accrual, and sales totals change up and down from year to year, some long-term trends are also evident.
